Coincidence?
Is there a link between today’s publication of the Terrorism Bill and the detention of seven Algerians the Home Secretary wants to deport as “not being conducive to the public good? In April, four Algerians were cleared in the Ricin Plot and the CPS did not proceed against another four.
The Home Secretary, Charles Clarke, used his powers under the 1971 Immigration Act to detain and hopefully deport the eight. He could have used those powers any day between April and September. It’s incredible to believe in those five months the Security Services have added much to the evidence they must have obtained about these characters before their trial.
